2021 Grüner Veltliner Ried Kellerberg, Smaragd, F.X. Pichler

A famed vineyard site and Pichler's steepest vineyard site that has a south, south-east exposition and still benefits from significant diurnal temperatures that help with a consistent maturation of the grapes. Its hugely complex soils of gneiss and fine loess top soil produces high quality grapes with the wine destined to be very long lived. Cooler fruit profiles of citrus and flinty notes work in juxtaposition to the more tropical and exotic notes of pineapple and mango. Ginger spice and white pepper aromas add layers of complexity.

Weingut F.X. Pichler

Based in Austria’s most prestigious region, the Wachau, F.X. Pichler are one of the world’s foremost producers of Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. Franz Xaver (the eponymous F.X.) inherited the estate in 1971, and was instrumental in the rise to prominence of both his family’s winery and the Wachau. His son Lucas (the fifth generation) now makes the wine, but F.X. is still an active presence in the vineyards.
