2009 Centgrafenberg, Pinot Noir Grosses Gewächs, Rudolf Fürst, Franken
The Franken region of Germany produces some of its best red wines, but relatively few are exported. The wines of Paul Fürst however have gained quite a following, due to their undeniable quality and elegance. In a recent blind tasting of many top Pinot Noir, the wines of Fürst beat all comers, with the exception of La Tâche. Highly perfumed with notes of wild strawberry, earth and dried flowers. The palate is refined and elegant, with supple, fine tannins and a rounded, mineral core of great depth. The finish is seamless, with lingering notes of autumnal wood smoke and flint.
