The tiny, almost vertical, Prälat vineyard of just 1.6 hectares is nestled at the foot of the steep cliffs beside the river and is the warmest and most sheltered site in the whole Mosel. Its unique microclimate produces wines of unequalled power and nobility. Ernst Loosen owns 0.6 hectares here and his 2010 Auslese Goldkapsel, made from one hundred percent botrytised grapes, is truly astounding. Ripe pear, citrus and orange peel are most prominent, where shadings of toffee and butterscotch add richness and depth. All this is supported by an incredible, cleansing acidity and stunning mineral core. Delicious now, this wine will evolve for decades to come.
