2019 Krotenpfuhl Riesling Grosses Gewächs, Dönnhoff, Nahe

2019 Krotenpfuhl Riesling Grosses Gewächs, Dönnhoff, Nahe

From a small plot of the oldest vines, this was first produced in 2017: this is just the third vintage of a GG from the Krotenpfuhl vineyard, following ten years of recultivation of the plot. This balances richness and elegance: there’s ripe exotic fruit, and then a vibrant line of acidity that continues onto the long finish. Brilliant.

Tasting notes

The 2019 Riesling GG Krötenpfuhl is pure, fresh and complex on the dense, flinty and very elegant mocha-scented nose. Round and intense on the palate, this is a full-bodied, powerful, pretty dense and juicy yet firmly structured, lemon-flavored dry Riesling from Bad Kreuznach. This is excellent quality and reveals remarkable finesse. Tasted as a sample in Bremen, April 2020.
