2017 Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese, Dönnhoff, Nahe

From a 100% slate, south facing vineyard that’s excellent for spatlese. There are 3 parts to this vineyard - heart is old, a younger part - 30 years old, - and very young 20 years old. Wonderful acidity and depth, slatey character and mineral. There’s a weightless energy here, with notes of yellow plum, peach and a hint of apricot. Also floral, and a lovely herbal, minty character on the finish. Very long. Really ripe red apples too, and a touch of cherry too - not just the name (which means cherry. Helmutt says this is “a good wine for the money” - “for the price it’s too good”.
