2006 saw plenty of warmth, and also intense rainfall in August. The result is this charming, impressive Champagne, dubbed ‘capricious indulgence’ by the house. This has a very floral and primary nose, with notes of fresh lemons, and orange blossom. Generous and pure on the nose, with a lovely touch of struck match reduction alongside that richness of fruit. Delicate acidity holds the palate together, and it’s long, with just a hint of peach juice on the finish, with plenty of wild flowers.
Since the house was established by Joseph Krug in 1843, Krug has become synonymous with the very finest Champagne. Now headed by Olivier, the sixth generation of the family, the wines are known for their power, elegance and ageworthiness.
Their Grande Cuvée sets the standard for Non-vintage Champagnes and single vineyard offerings such as Clos de Mesnil are among the most sought-after wines in the world.
