2025 Vin de France, Les Culs de Beaujeu, François Cotat

2025 Vin de France, Les Culs de Beaujeu, François Cotat

This vineyard is perhaps a little less well-known than the Monts Damnés, but the Cotat family holds it in at least the same regard. The vines face northwest, making this is a cooler site. Indeed, despite the 14.5% alcohol and 5.4g/ltr residual sugar, there is a surprising vibrancy to this wine. The attack is richly fruited with plenty of ripe peach and apricot, neatly intertwined with notes of white pepper and anise. The palate has a pleasing grip and chewy, almond-like bitterness on the finish. It’s somewhat closed and backward at the moment, but this should begin to unfurl with a decade in the cellar.
