2024 Sancerre Les Culs de Beaujeu, François Cotat

2024 Sancerre Les Culs de Beaujeu, François Cotat

Cul de Beaujeu is a northwest-facing site in Chavignol. The soil is Kimmeridgian marl terres blanches. The 2024 vintage was held back for release with the 2025s to even out the amount of wine released each year. The cool 2024 vintage has given a wine which is more classically Sancerre in its proportions than is the norm for Cotat, with a modest 13% alcohol and no residual sugar. The aromatic profile has some of the more herbal Sauvignon notes, though the restrained aromas, mouth filling weight and pithy texture are archetypal Cotat. An extra year in bottle has allowed this to stretch out on the palate since tasting last year, and it is already showing well. This should drink well before the 2025.
