2020 Chinon, Logis de la Bouchardière, Serge et Bruno Sourdais

The perennial red-wine-bargain of the list, this great little wine has succeeded again in 2020. After a short period of ageing the wine is bottled, and even in its first year it offers an upfront, fruity and refreshing style of red, centred on red cherry fruits with detailed little tannins, that give it a nice grip, but also slip down a treat, even in youth.

2020 Chinon, Logis de la Bouchardière, Serge et Bruno Sourdais
Serge et Bruno Sourdais

The Chinon appellation produces some of France’s most drinkable and refreshing red wines. Since taking over in 2008, sixth generation winemaker Bruno Sourdais fashions delectable, delicate Cabernet Franc with exceptional value for money. The emphasis here is on traditional winemaking with a careful approach in the vineyard and the wines all spending a little time in oak. In spite of the humble price tags, Bruno is rightly considered one of the top producers in the appellation.
