2020 Riesling Sommerberg Grand Cru E, Albert Boxler

Sommerberg is the magnificent grand cru vineyard behind the village of Niedermorschwihr. Jean Boxler’s isolated parcels within it, where the vines are extremely old, are the purest and most concentrated expression of just what is possible here, and both the E and D cuvées have earned a cult following. E stands for Eckberg, a small parcel within the grand cru, and it is often the most tightly wound and slow to unfurl of the Boxler Sommerberg wines. But it will be well worth the wait when it does. Produced only in tiny quantities, this will disappear all too quickly.
