2019 Riesling, Albert Boxler

This is one of the great gems of the list: a top class grower’s signature wine. The fruit comes from around the village of Ingersheim, near the domaine’s cellars in Niedermorschwihr. Jean Boxler’s parcels are clustered around these villages; here, his attention to detail in the vineyard is revered by neighbours. There’s no doubt his efforts pay off in this wine, which has a vibrant and energetic freshness: zingy lime juice on the nose, and a brilliantly balanced palate, concentration and drive. Great young, but this will age in style.

2019 Riesling, Albert Boxler
Albert Boxler

With vines in the key Grands Crus Sommerberg and Brand, it’s no wonder Boxler is one of the most respected names in Alsace. In the area since 1673, history and family are omnipresent here: incumbent Jean Boxler’s grandfather assumed responsibility after World War II, and his cousin designed the label that same year, in 1946. Based in Niedermorschwihr, Jean and his family vinify parcels within each cru separately, for precise, vintage-driven wines which age better than any.
