2018 Riesling Grand Cru Brand, Albert Boxler

This is a pale, almost green gold in the glass. Brand always has a more approachable acidity than Sommerberg, and that is true again in 2018. This should drink well from early on, but it has the structure and poise for wonderful ageing. A rich, ripe lime character on the nose, with power, intensity, and astonishing length on the palate derived from the low yields produced by this granitic site - one of the finest in Alsace. Truly magnificent.

2018 Riesling Grand Cru Brand, Albert Boxler
Albert Boxler

With vines in the key Grands Crus Sommerberg and Brand, it’s no wonder Boxler is one of the most respected names in Alsace. In the area since 1673, history and family are omnipresent here: incumbent Jean Boxler’s grandfather assumed responsibility after World War II, and his cousin designed the label that same year, in 1946. Based in Niedermorschwihr, Jean and his family vinify parcels within each cru separately, for precise, vintage-driven wines which age better than any.
