2014 Ermitage de l'Ermite Blanc, M. Chapoutier

This tiny parcel, sitting right at the top of the hill with ‘pre-phylloxera’ vines of over 100 years old, is jewel in the crown of the estate, if not the hill of Hermitage itself. Reticent on the nose, with air comes a floral note and whiff of gunflint. Powerful and lithe, it is earthy and yeasty and very distinctive with a rippling finish.

2014 Ermitage de l'Ermite Blanc, M. Chapoutier
M. Chapoutier

The name Chapoutier has long been associated with the northern Rhône thanks to the calibre of their plots around the region, but it was only once Michel Chapoutier took control of the family business in 1988 that quality accelerated it to become the world-class concern it is today. Michel Chapoutier is undoubtedly one of the greatest winemakers of our time, and has successfully extended his business to include vineyards in the Roussillon, Alsace and Australia. But his Northern Rhône Syrahs and Marsannes of exquisite quality remain the main attraction.
