2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Gallimardes, Domaine Giraud

This, one of their top cuvees, is made from Grenache planted in 1901 and with 60 year old Syrah. The age of the vines makes a vibrant wine, with tapenade, anise and crunchy cherry fruit. Stunning.

Domaine Giraud

Although they’ve got a history in the region dating back generations, the Giraud family are relative latecomers to wine, having been distillers for most of their history. They only got hold of their first vines in 1974, with brother and sister team, François and Marie, taking over from their parents in 1998. They focus on each plot in turn, creating some of Châteauneuf’s most elegant and precise wines that show none of the heaviness of some of their neighbours.
