2016 Côte-Rôtie Sybarine, Domaine Garon

This comes from a parcel of young vines grown on the granite slopes of the Côte Blonde. It has an enticing nose of black olive, violets, and black currants. The palate shows great drive, with crunchy tannins and fine freshness. Very Syrah, and very delicious. Good value.

2016 Côte-Rôtie Sybarine, Domaine Garon
Domaine Garon

The Garon family have been landowners in Ampuis for 500 years, but it wasn’t until 1982 that they started tending to the neglected vines on their land. Releasing their first cuvée in 1995, Jean-Francois Garon observed with little irony that "it wasn't bad for the vineyards to rest a hundred years between plantings." Today, this traditional producer makes three wines from the Côte-Rôtie’s Côte Blonde and one from the Côte Brune, all mostly destemmed and aged in a mix of new and older French oak.
