2013 Ermitage Le Pavillon, M. Chapoutier

My favourite red wine of the tasting this combines luxurious creamy, blackcurrant fruit with violets, black pepper and a tightly layered structure. Disarmingly open at this very early stage this is an extremely fine boned Syrah which will need a good 10 years of bottle age.

2013 Ermitage Le Pavillon, M. Chapoutier
M. Chapoutier

The name Chapoutier has long been associated with the northern Rhône thanks to the calibre of their plots around the region, but it was only once Michel Chapoutier took control of the family business in 1988 that quality accelerated it to become the world-class concern it is today. Michel Chapoutier is undoubtedly one of the greatest winemakers of our time, and has successfully extended his business to include vineyards in the Roussillon, Alsace and Australia. But his Northern Rhône Syrahs and Marsannes of exquisite quality remain the main attraction.
