2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Grenaches de Pierre, Domaine Giraud

This wine has become one of the great old vine expressions of Châteauneuf. This is a layered, silky wine with huge potential. It has more freshness and weight than the seductive 2011 and Marie rates it as one of the best ever ‘Pierres’.

2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Grenaches de Pierre, Domaine Giraud
Domaine Giraud

Although they’ve got a history in the region dating back generations, the Giraud family are relative latecomers to wine, having been distillers for most of their history. They only got hold of their first vines in 1974, with brother and sister team, François and Marie, taking over from their parents in 1998. They focus on each plot in turn, creating some of Châteauneuf’s most elegant and precise wines that show none of the heaviness of some of their neighbours.
