“Even better and most likely one of the wines of the vintage, the 2012 Hermitage Les Bessards is a massive, concentrated and yet thrillingly pure and focused Hermitage that knocks it out of the park on all accounts. Offering up an inky purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of blueberry, roasted espresso bean, powered rock and licorice, this serious, substantial effort should be hidden away for 3-4 years and enjoyed over the following two decades.” 96 – 98 points, Jeb Dunnuck, The wine Advocate, December 2013
With an impressive female winemaker, Claire Darnaud, at the helm since 2010 (though with experience there dating back to 1996), and considerable investment in the cellar to move to the historic town centre, the wines here are some of the more refined in the region. Careful never to use more than 40% new oak, Claire is a master of her craft.
