2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Trois Sources, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

A polished effort from Jean-Marc who has bucked the trend in this vintage to produce a masculine style of Châteauneuf with good weight and fine tannins. Already approachable in its youth with pure, sweet black fruits and a spicy, gamey complexity, this is rich enough that it will continue to age nicely over the next 6 years or so.

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Trois Sources, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne
Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

One of the most compelling winemakers in the region, the gentle Jean-Paul Daumen has a philosophy of winemaking akin to an artist. Jean-Paul converted the property, which had been in the family since 1905, to biodynamic practices in 1998. His attention to detail and passion for his vines could not be more obvious after just a few minutes in his company. Almost Burgundian in style, here is Grenache winemaking par excellence, right next door to the legendary Château Rayas. They release a year later than other producers.
