2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservé, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

Made exclusively from vines planted in 1904, the Réservée is the tiny jewel in the crown for the domaine who have produced a mere 500 cases from the aristocratic 2010 vintage. This is an exemplary example from recent years, of traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape produced almost entirely from Grenache, and will have a lifespan to match the depth and concentration of its clearly-defined fruit characters. Pure class; this is the pinnacle of Rhône winemaking!

Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

One of the most compelling winemakers in the region, the gentle Jean-Paul Daumen has a philosophy of winemaking akin to an artist. Jean-Paul converted the property, which had been in the family since 1905, to biodynamic practices in 1998. His attention to detail and passion for his vines could not be more obvious after just a few minutes in his company. Almost Burgundian in style, here is Grenache winemaking par excellence, right next door to the legendary Château Rayas. They release a year later than other producers.
