The youngest vines used for this cuvée are 60-years-old and this old-vine fruit provides a delicious complexity to a tremendous Hermitage. The nose is intensely scented with notes of violet, pepper and damson fruit. These notes carry through onto the palate, where they are framed by fine-grained and supremely ripe tannins and a beautifully-freshening acidity. The finish is long and delicious, with more exotic notes of clove and dark chocolate coming through at the end. Incredibly fine, this should be an unmissable wine for any lover of Northern Rhône and Syrah.
