On the palate this at once rich and fresh, with black cherry and hedgerow fruit characters joined by more subtle nuances of mocha and liquorice. Ripe, yet fine tannins provide a taut framework for this substantial wine and a vein of minerality runs throughout, giving this a sense of drive and direction. Bold, yet restrained, powerful, yet balanced, this is an extraordinary wine from Clos des Papes.
