2009 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos des Papes

A blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, this is a highly concentrated wine that displays great complexity and finesse. The nose is intense, with brooding notes of black fruit and a hint of spice. The palate is rich and vibrant, with morello cherry, black berry and liquorice characters to the fore, given structure by fine, ripe tannins and subtle minerality. This is undoubtedly a big wine, but everything is held in perfect balance.
