2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Gallimardes, Domaine Giraud

Grenache dominates here to the tune of 90%, with the rest Syrah. The aromas capture an appealing sweet ripeness,with raspberry and blueberry to the fore. On the palate there is a generous accent to the fruit, like baked damson with a moist fruitcake-like spice. Fresh and generous, notes of pepper, herb and liquorice add complexity. This is a terrific Gallimardes with a round, fleshy nature to the fruit. The finest Gallimardes yet, and a first purchase for us.
