2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Grenache de Pierre, Domaine Giraud

New to Lay & Wheeler
The brother and sister team of Marie and François Giraud has run the domaine since 1998. Glowing reviews for the 2005s and the 2006s are sure to place this estate firmly on the map. This impressive cuvée comprises entirely old-vine Grenache. Intense, near opaque in the glass, with dark cherry and provençal herb aromas. The palate is so pure and impressive, smooth in texture, with a pruney, liquorice-like sweetness. A bold style with plenty of elegance and concentration as well as the all-important freshness that one looks for in a great vintage.

2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Grenache de Pierre, Domaine Giraud
Domaine Giraud

Although they’ve got a history in the region dating back generations, the Giraud family are relative latecomers to wine, having been distillers for most of their history. They only got hold of their first vines in 1974, with brother and sister team, François and Marie, taking over from their parents in 1998. They focus on each plot in turn, creating some of Châteauneuf’s most elegant and precise wines that show none of the heaviness of some of their neighbours.
