2005 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne, René Rostaing

The nose was restrained when we tasted as the wine had recently been racked and assembled. The palate however revealed terrific intensity of black fruits. Bold, assertive almost thick in nature, the tannins are far more assertive here, yet finely-expressed and easily matched by the sheer volume of fruit. A mineral vein coarses through this wine, with its subtle leather, game and savoury undertones. A wine of serious potential, this is pure and finely poised.

2005 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne, René Rostaing
Domaine René Rostaing

A master in his field, René Rostaing is an anomaly. While his wife inherited some of the finest plots in the Côte-Rôtie, he initially elected a career in real estate, though he gradually spent more time making wine until he took it on full time in 2000. With 7.5 hectares of prime land, he blends the best of traditional and modern techniques in the vineyard and cellar, producing terroir-driven wines. René has recently been joined by his son, Pierre, whose first vintage in control was 2015.
