2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine du Clos du Mont Olivet
A bright youthful mulberry colour in the glass, less deep than some young châteauneuf perhaps. Intensely floral, violet, blueberry and damson notes burst from the nose, creating a very appealing character. The fruit on the palate is similar in nature, with fragrant blue fruit and a sweet floral nature. The tannins are extraordinarily fine, and there is a mineral acidity, leading to an elegant linear style. There is weight to the fruit, but this is certainly no blockbuster, and the overall impression is one of balance, poise and refinement.
