2016 Brouilly Cuvée des Fous, Jean-Claude Lapalu, Beaujolais

2016 Brouilly Cuvée des Fous, Jean-Claude Lapalu, Beaujolais

One of Jean-Claude’s top cuvées, this is bottled in Bordeaux bottles after a friend in the early 2000s complained he couldn’t sell Bordeaux. When the wine flew, the bottle stuck. It’s made from vines that were planted in 1900, and is, quite simply, as good as Beaujolais gets.

Tasting notes

The 2016 Brouilly Cuvee des Fous has a complex bouquet with scents of raspberry coulis, wild strawberry, cold stone and undergrowth. This is very detailed, quite an intellectual bouquet for a Brouilly. The palate is very energetic. You can feel this ricocheting around the mouth with "zingy" dark berry fruit, mixed with cola and light orange peel notes. This is going to grow up to be a superb Brouilly, and as such, it comes highly recommended.
