2024 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu, Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin

2024 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu, Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin

Mont de Milieu, the mountain in the middle, historically marked the frontier between Burgundy and Champagne. It has a south-facing aspect - rare in Chablis - and this wine expresses the flamboyant side of Chardonnay, grown in a sunny spot, in a cool climate. The old vines have produced a wine bursting with just ripe stonefruit. Intense, salty, and voluminous.

Tasting notes

25% oak. A fullish pale lemon yellow. The south facing slope offers a generosity of fruit on the nose. A well-balanced ripeness and nicely structured with greater persistence. Ripe apples along with some stone fruit. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Jun 2025.

The 2024 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru has a cohesive, finely delineated bouquet with Crustacea and sea spray scents intermixed with lemon verbena and apple blossom. The palate is very well balanced with pretty notes of apricot, clementine and a little more tension than the Vaillons. The 2024 has a long, flowing finish. It is excellent.
