2024 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir, William Fèvre

2024 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir, William Fèvre

Vaudésir is shaped like an amphitheatre and catches the sun. As a result, the fruit ripens early here, and it needs to be picked at just the right time. This wine marks a gear-change in the cellar: it shows the hallmarks of a truly great terroir. Its fine-boned energy is so pretty in youth and will maintain its striking beauty with age. Aromatically complex, zingy and detailed. Only three barrels were made.

Tasting notes

Three barrels made. More lemon than lime in colour, with density. The nose is growing just slowly. Now some yellow fruit but with a bit of honeysuckle. The vineyard is very steep on the south-west facing side, so it gets ripe yet keeps the stones. A wealth of fruit, almost a touch oily, significant grip behind, and leaves salt on the lips. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Jul 2025.

The 2024 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru was reduced to just three barrels this year (from 1.2-hectares!) and was the first to be picked. It has a mineral-driven bouquet that is nuanced, focused and very classy. The palate is fresh on the entry, with admirable tension. This builds gently in the mouth, with a dab of lemongrass and white pepper leading to a concentrated finish that is impressive for the vintage. The 2024 is recommended.
