2023 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir, Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin

2023 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir, Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin

Vaudésir sits at the top of the grand cru hill, and enjoys a steep incline, making it one of the sunnier spots in the grand cru. This is all nutty intensity and precision, giving it density and drive on the palate. It’s got a great texture, with stone fruit concentration laced with grilled hazelnuts. This will drink well from early on, though its drinking window should not be underestimated.

Tasting notes

The grapes come from both sides of the valley. The 2023 Vaudésir shows a pale lemon yellow colour. Strict yet powerful on the nose. All white fruit. A fine stone laden backbone, elegance with intensity, while the late season sunshine enriches the finish. Really very persistent and never loses finesse. 40% wood.

The 2023 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru has a more backward nose that at the moment is surpassed by a couple of Droin's excelling Premier Crus like the Montée de Tonnerre. Light apple blossom and lemon rind. The palate is well balanced with fine depth, and a crisp line of acidity. It gently builds toward a more spicy finish. Very fine, but not the best Grand Cru from the Domaine this year.
