2010 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, Jean-Paul Droin

"As soon as I stuck my nose in the glass I knew that it was all but impossible not to immediately tag this as not only a classic Chablis but a Chablis of distinction. Notes of algae, sea breeze, iodine and mineral reduction suffuse the elegant and admirably pure white flower aromas that merge seamlessly with intense and equally pure medium weight plus flavors that possess a driving stoniness on the mouth coating, powerful, focused and hugely long finish. This is a seriously impressive wine of grand cru dimensions." Burghound, 92-94 points

2010 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, Jean-Paul Droin
Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin

Present in Chablis since at least 1620, nobody understands Chablis better than the Droin family. Jean-Paul (J.P.) first put the estate on the map, and it’s now Benoît in charge. He’s the fourteenth generation at the helm, since 1999. That was the same year the Droins built a state-of-the-art winery, in the shadow of the Grands Crus. Benoît has increased quality considerably. He uses less new oak, making Chablis that’s crisp, precise, and that shows differences between each vineyard clearly.
