Le Charmois is on a hill just next to Chassagne-Montrachet’s 1er Cru Les Chaumées. There is around 40 centimetres of topsoil then the vines hit cool, poor limestone soil making for a tightly powerful wine with straight, chalky freshness. The wine is aged in around 20% new oak which adds a little spicy accent of ginger and acacia. A beautifully energetic wine the palate offers ripe white peach and apricot notes with a verve of salinity on the finish.
Mid lemon yellow. A touch of sandalwood, but otherwise quite chiselled. A substantial volume of white fruit on the palate, more flesh than Champlots, fine acidity, a little grapefruit behind, and very persistent. Picked at the perfect moment. Iodine from the rock. Drink from 2027-2031. Tasted Oct 2024.
