2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St Jean, Domaine Paul Pillot

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St Jean, Domaine Paul Pillot

This is the Pillots’ largest premier cru, and it lies just up the road from their cellar. It is the emblematic cuvée of the domaine, and a brilliant buy every vintage. The 2023 has great tension and saline length, with a nervous energy that lingers long after tasting.

Tasting notes

The brisk and bright 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos Saint-Jean 1er Cru has a more Puligny-like bouquet that stands apart from Pillot's Chassagnes: hints of fresh pear and Granny Smiths blend with petrichor. The palate is fresh, taut and well defined with lovely salinity. Just a hint of lemon and orange rind emerges on the finish, giving way to a spicy aftertaste. Excellent.

Mid lemon yellow. Quite restrained, but not so tight. All in white fruit, more floral even, with a different sort of electricity. Lively and quite persistent. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Nov 2024.
