2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Charmes, Alain Chavy

The plot of Charmes in Puligny is a continuation of 1er Cru Charmes in Meursault, and shares many of its characteristics, like the light, fine, stony soils. It certainly merits single bottling, with its fine-boned nervous freshness and delicate richness underneath. Plenty of fragrant, fresh yellow fruit and a light blossom note. Great value.

2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Charmes, Alain Chavy

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Charmes has a fragrant bouquet with apricot, candle wax and light saffron aromas that are already very seductive. The palate is well balanced with good weight, though oddly I find a little more elegance on the Puligny Village comparing the two side-by-side. Hopefully it will gain a little more complexity once in bottle.

Domaine Alain Chavy

Alain Chavy and his brother, Jean-Louis, split their father’s vineyards in 2003, as is often the case in Burgundy. Alain works a great selection of Puligny vineyards, and his traditionally styled wines convey some of the best of Puligny-Montrachet’s chiselled minerality alongside a fullness of body endowed by the wine’s classical élévage.
