2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

A premier cru that’s undoubtedly at the very top of its classification. Elegant and fine, and lovely texture, with silky acidity. This is pure and refined, so saline, mineral and complex. Beautiful energy, touch of reduction, very floral and very long.

2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

One of Burgundy’s most charming domaines, Fontaine-Gagnard is run by Celine Fontaine, with her parents Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard. Richard founded the estate when he married Laurence: his first vintage was 1985, produced from his inlaws’ vineyards. However, this nearly never happened: the first time they met, he almost misidentified the 1978 Montrachet, the estate’s crown jewel, as Aligoté, due to its high acidity. Fortunately he kept his mouth shut, and Fontaine-Gagnard was born.
