2013 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Fontaine-Gagnard

This Bâtard displays a similar power and intensity to the Criots, but it is more linear, with a tight streak of acidity running through the wine and giving it a precise edge. Citrus fruit dominates the finish that slowly and gently grows in volume and power. A very powerful, yet elegant Grand Cru, this is delicious.

2013 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Fontaine-Gagnard
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

One of Burgundy’s most charming domaines, Fontaine-Gagnard is run by Celine Fontaine, with her parents Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard. Richard founded the estate when he married Laurence: his first vintage was 1985, produced from his inlaws’ vineyards. However, this nearly never happened: the first time they met, he almost misidentified the 1978 Montrachet, the estate’s crown jewel, as Aligoté, due to its high acidity. Fortunately he kept his mouth shut, and Fontaine-Gagnard was born.
