2024 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle sous la Chapelle, Domaine François Buffet

2024 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle sous la Chapelle, Domaine François Buffet

This is one of many Volnay premiers crus that Marc-Olivier has at his fingertips. The site’s generous topsoil makes for a wine of appealing charm, marking it out as one of the earliest drinking of the Buffet Volnay premiers crus. As with all his 24s, the fruit is completely de-stemmed, and the wine has a sumptuous, succulent texture on the palate. It is sweetly- scented, with intense purity of fruit. Sensational.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Volnay Carelle 1er Cru has a clean nose, nicely defined with strawberry and red cherries, just missing a bit of vigour but still conveying a sense of transparency. The palate is well balanced with more ripeness and generosity than the Le Village, a touch more grip with cranberry and even a hint of kirsch right on the finish. There's something playful about this Volnay, in a good way.

A fuller crimson. The same light and slight strawberry based nose, with good energy through the middle of the palate, and adequate acidity. The best finish to date. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Oct 2025.
