2024 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets, Comte Armand

2024 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets, Comte Armand

The primary reason this cuvée is not more celebrated and well-known is that it is simply produced in tiny quantities, particularly so in 2024. It is the most fine-boned and restrained wine in the cellar, its charm derived from its elegant restraint. Its high proportion of old vines make a concentrated and deep wine.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Volnay Les Frémiets 1er Cru, which was the first to be picked with a small team, has a bright and perky nose: raspberry and redcurrant fruit, a little sous-bois and sage coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with lightly spiced black fruit on the entry. Quite structured for Volnay, as if it borrowed some of Pommard's scaffolding, with a liberal dash of cracked black pepper on the finish. Classy.
