2024 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux, Comte Armand

2024 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux, Comte Armand

This is an important vineyard both in terms of its size (a substantial 5.23 ha) and its historical stock of old vines (some now over 100 years old) which are used as a source of top quality massale selection by nurseries: its plant material is simply supreme. High-density planting and old vines means low yields are the norm, and sadly in 2024 only 10hl/ha were achieved here. This Clos feels on point: powerful, svelte, profound, and intense. It is truly one of the greatest vineyards of the Côte de Beaune.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru was reduced to two lots in this vintage due to mildew and poor flowering. Completely de-stemmed this year, it has a very attractive nose with a mixture of red and black fruit, mint, fennel and light graphite scents. Good intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, fluid tannins that render this a more curvy Clos des Epeneaux, a silver thread of acidity lending tension, quite peppery and symmetrical with a sustained finish. Good energy, this is a successful Clos des Epeneaux with the potential to age with grace.
