2024 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens, Domaine François Buffet

2024 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens, Domaine François Buffet

Like the Volnay Taillepieds, this is one of the smaller cuvées in the Buffet stable. It comes from the upper part of the vineyard, planted with vines that are now well over their hundred year mark. All work here is done by horse, and the attention to detail continues in the cellar. Toothsome power and muscular drive combine with sweet fruit length.

Tasting notes

The 2024 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has the most completeness and cohesion on the nose amongst Buffet's 2024s, vibrant redcurrant, strawberry and briar scents unfolding in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with finely sculpted tannins and a sense of beguiling symmetry in situ already. It sashays along nicely towards its composed, quite minerally finish. This will drink well for the next decade and will be difficult to resist in its youth.

Medium crimson. The nose suggests there may be a certain density of fruit but it is not forthcoming. It is only slightly more concentrated than the other Pommard 1ers Crus until you get to the finish which does extend further. Now we can find additional class, a more stylish red berry fruit, with structure but refined. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Oct 2025.
