2023 Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans, Michel Lafarge

2023 Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans, Michel Lafarge

Cellar Circle Exclusive

This parcel, right in the centre of the village, has been owned by the Lafarge family since 2005. It has an ideal mid-slope position, and produces a floral wine with great tension and an intense fruit core: quintessential Volnay. A more ethereal feel this year with fine texture and a lift of wild strawberry and cherry blossom.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru is aged in 15% new oak. It has a cohesive bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and crushed iris flower scents. It gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red and black fruit. Quite compact on the mid-palate, it offers orange rind and sour cherries on the finish. Drink this over the next 15 years.

An even mid purple. Stricter on the nose, firmer tannins in the middle, but a wealth of dark red fruit as well, more on the austere side but with excellent persistence. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Dec 2024.
