2023 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

2023 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)

Mark Fincham isn’t one to mince his words, so when he says this is the best Mazoyères he’s made at Tawse, it’s worth listening to him. It’s got 45% whole-bunch, and shows Mark’s skill and confidence with this style. It’s savoury, decadent but fresh, and ready for the long haul.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru includes 42% whole bunch, although you cannot discern a stem on the nose! It is very well defined and quite understated, with touches of black truffle and pencil shavings lending complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and silky smooth, with supple tannins and impressive weight on the finish. This may not be up to the stellar 2022, but it is only a few steps behind. It is excellent.

45% whole bunch. Lifted ruby purple. A touch of coconut from the wood. This has much more finesse than the Charmes. Really graceful on the palate yet still with tensile strength. An excellent fruit acid balance too, altogether a classy Mazoyères. Very persistent. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.
