2023 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle sous la Chapelle, Domaine François Buffet

2023 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle sous la Chapelle, Domaine François Buffet

This is one of many Volnay Premiers Crus that Marc-Olivier has at his fingertips. The site’s generous topsoil makes for a wine of appealing charm, marking it out as one of the earliest drinking of the Buffet Volnay Premiers Crus. The fruit is completely destemmed, and the wine has a fleshy, succulent texture on the palate. There is a slight ferrous note with accents of wild herbs and liquorice root. The silky red and dark berry fruit wrap around the palate leading to a bright and graceful finish.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Volnay Carelle 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with brambly red fruit and a touch of sous-bois opening discretely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip and a little spice box note on the opening. It's nicely structured with quite an elegant finish. Drink it over the next decade.

A richer purple. Raspberry and ripe redcurrant, vigorous and fresh while cherry jam adds itself to the flavours on the palate, accessible yet with some substance. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Oct 2024.
