This Village level Volnay comes from two parcels: the evocatively named Les Famines, whose paucity of soil makes the roots dig deep; and a small dash of the tiny lieu-dit, La Gigotte, which lifts this village wine up a notch. As always, this is entirely destemmed, showing all the accessibility and charm of this vintage. The wine offers ripe dark cherry fruit, violets and a lift of allspice. The tannin is very fine-grained and fluid on the palate with a delicate salinity on the finish.
From Les Famines and Gigotte. Almost an imperial purple colour but the nose is flirting with volatility. Plump raspberry, a softer finish, then a dry tannin. Nearly lovely but not completely together, with a softer finish. Drink from 2027-2031. Tasted Oct 2024.
