2023 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards, Louis Boillot

2023 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards, Louis Boillot

This vineyard bordering Pommard did once produce wines with some robust, muscular tannins. However, with vines reaching 70+ years, the tannins have begun to soften, becoming distinctly finer in recent years. The fruit character is darker here with black cherry and violet notes with hints of incense and earthiness. The finish is fleshy with a bright line of acidity.

Tasting notes

The 2023 Volnay Les Brouillards 1er Cru has one of the highest alcohol levels (13.8%). The nose features black cherry and raspberry scents billowing from the glass. The palate is ripe and sweet, mixing dark cherry and black pepper aromas with a hint of licorice. It entertains a soupçon of exoticism on the finish. I would probably drink this early and savor its exuberance.
