2023 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets, Comte Armand

2023 Volnay 1er Cru Frémiets, Comte Armand

Les Frémiets sits on the border with Pommard, and the wine often shows the character of both villages. It is the most fine-boned, and restrained wine in the cellar this year, its charm derived from its elegant restraint. Its high proportion of old vines make a concentrated and deep wine. This is a polished, refined, and soulful Volnay. Another highlight in 2023.

Tasting notes

A fresh vivid ruby purple. Picking started here, two days before the Clos yet with evident ripeness. The palate boasts plums and squishy ripe cherries, not too dry behind, but there is an element of 2020 here. Still fine, a touch lower in acidity but adequate, 13.6%. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Nov 2024.
