Tasting notes

The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, matured in 80% new oak, almost seems to have some stem addition on the nose when in fact there is none. Lovely dark berry fruit meet hints of black pepper and forest floor, fresh and vibrant as light pine scents emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. There is unerring symmetry and a perfect line of acidity. Not weighty or powerful but so harmonious on the finish, this will drink sooner than the 2022. One of the finest wines of 2023.

A fine ruby crimson colour. The nose shows a refined red berry fruit, this being a little lighter in alcohol. Thus less weight on the palate but a very pleasing refinement, very nicely judged, avoiding the muscularity of the appellation, with a fine long finish. Drink from 2032-2042. Tasted Nov 2024.
