This remarkable village lieu-dit sits directly above Clos de Tart, Clos des Lambrays, and Bonnes Mares, and the Clair parcel is an extension of their lauded Bonnes Mares plot. It’s hard to believe this isn’t a premier cru, really. Up here there is virtually no top soil at all, and the vines plunge straight into the limestone bedrock. The wine has abundant blackberry and wild strawberry aromas, tightly-wound tannins, and a fragrant energy.
Mid purple. A very stylish and exceptionally precise bouquet, shows the limestone in style, floral yet with a certain intensity, like an alpine raspberry? Fine raspberry precision continues right across the palate. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted: November 2023.
The 2022 Morey Saint-Denis En la Rue Vergy has a generous bouquet with black plum and iodine scents, finely delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive purity of fruit, fine tannins and a sapid finish beckoning you back for more. What a delicious Morey this is going to be.
