This is a fabulous year for Clos de la Roche, making a juicy but restrained wine with huge potential It displays both the brawny swagger of the Clos de la Roche vineyard, and the suave handling of the Marchand-Tawse cellar combined.
The 2022 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru contains 10-15% whole bunches and is matured entirely in new wood. This is more cohesive and conveys more red and blackberry fruit expression on the nose, with touches of sous-bois coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, quite bold and assertive. The oak will require 4 or 5 years to fully integrate, but it should turn into a fine Clos de la Roche - better than the Clos Saint-Denis.
